cyber dance records are back on the attack with a fresh release from the legendary perseus traxx aka nigel rogers, a 4-track ep entitled after recent scientific developments an apparent horizon . its a firmly machine-based and totally jam-packed affair reflecting diverse sounds from the uk s own rich history of electronic dance music, with elements from the classic warp -deep space sound- prominent as much as the more usual 303-jacking acid house grooves in the vein of baby ford or bam bam. lost dreams opens the record with a floaty dream-like hipnosis from the depths of space and sets the tone in magnificent style, followed up on side a with the irresistible roll of reverse the trend that takes the groove harder, further and deeperstraight off to the beyond. dark strings reminiscent of old lfo, b-12 or autechre vinyls from the early 90s propel us into side b on darkness stalks , and then we re transported onto the concluding track on the ep, distances , an epic closer that opens with beautiful reverbed claps and acid squelches before diving into an inky black void of timeless space-travelling and slow-building tension that could surely echo hauntingly around any m25 rave in the depths of a late 1980s night.

a period of review (original recordings: 1975 - 1983) visits k. leimers vast archive and unearths unheard work from a self-taught visionary whose use of generative composition ferried his music to infinite resonance. with its hypnotic arcadian terraces and nearly narcotic glacial beauty, a period of review has a rightful place in the canon of pioneering ambient music. double album includes 16 page booklet with extensive liner notes and ephemera, printed inner sleeves and a high quality mp3 download.

editions haighton are homespun edits of dusty curios by hotflush recordings jack haighton. the first instalment of a quarterly series takes its cues from the italian disco scene of the early 80s, reworking cyber peoples *void vision* into a hi-nrg burner fit for the early hours at a former power plant, and jm bands *computer monkey* into a loopy tool with frills.

after the very successful foray into split eps, luv shack records continues to explore this concept with luv013. the ep sees upcoming duo space echo make a return after their smash hit -soul power-, while the b-side is conducted by wahlberliner rotciv. -come back home-, the opening track by space echo, is a slowly building but effortlessly captivating piece of hypnotic house music with a raw funk attitude. the gently evolving synth line and the strong vocal hook are the spine of this anthemic track. the seemingly laid back -hangover- just oozes b-movie sleaze and might be space echos little hommage to 60 s lounge music, with an array of distorted guitars and soft pads coming to good use. that is until the synth theme kicks in mid-track and turns the piece into a late night weapon.
